Ingrowing Toenails

A toenail grows at 0.1mm each day and many things can trouble it. White spots may appear following knocks to the nail, vertical ridges appear with age and fungus invades from the surrounding skin.

If you dig into the unknown down the sides of the nail the toe may throb and swell due to infection. This also happens when the toenail grows into the corner causing an ingrown toenail.

Removal of the offending nail spike and gentle cleansing are all that's normally required to treat an ingrown toenail. Sometimes antibiotics are recommended. In rare cases an operation to remove part of the toenail becomes necessary.

In all cases prevention is far better than cure!
